Public trust in the energy industry has significantly decreased over the last decade due to the economic downturn, the fracking debate, and misconceptions about the industry.
The rising distrust has created a distorted view of what oil & gas businesses do and how they impact the economy. In fact, according to a recent study, only 37 percent of the general public believes the oil industry can be trusted to make the right decision.
By sponsoring the Texas Tech “Celebrate Energy Game,” Smart Chemical Services hopes to change that.
For the second year, the “Celebrate Energy Game” will honor the West Texas oil, gas and wind industry, celebrating their contributions to the local economy and energy. The game kicks off on Nov. 3, where the Texas Tech Red Raiders will host the Oklahoma Sooners at Jones AT&T Stadium.
The Vision Behind The “Celebrate Energy Game”
The event started in 2017 as a partnership between Texas Tech Athletics, the Rawls College of Business, the Permian Basin Petroleum Association, and top oil, wind, and gas companies in West Texas. When its return was announced, Smart Chemical Services eagerly joined the list of sponsors.
During the weeks leading up to the event, Texas Tech Athletics will feature prominent individuals and businesses in the oil and gas industry. Fans are even encouraged to wear black as a tribute to the industry that plays such a vital role in the Texas economy.
Texas Tech hopes to continue the tradition next year as well.
“The oil and gas industry has been great supporters of Texas Tech Athletics and we look forward to honoring their support with our inaugural ‘Celebrate Energy Game,'" Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. “West Texas is home to one of the largest areas of oil production in the country and we’re excited to celebrate our partnership with this important industry.”
At Smart Chemical Services, we’re always looking for ways to support the local community, and what better way than to partner with other leading oil & gas businesses in a mission to celebrate West Texas and the energy industry? We see this as an opportunity to reaffirm our dedication to the West Texas community and to better communicate the impact our industry has on the local and national economy.
Help us support the energy industry! Tune into the “Celebrate Energy Game” on Nov. 3 and cheer on your team. To learn more about the game or to purchase tickets online, visit texastech.com.
